OneBlock Minecraft: Tips And Tricks

Minecraft has been around for over ten years, and it’s still just as popular as it always was! The limitless possibilities of the game – whether you’re playing creative, survival or OneBlock SkyBlock – have kept us coming back again and again, and it feels like there’s always something new to discover in the Minecraft world.

If you’re no Minecraft pro, though, it could feel pretty complicated at first! The game is so huge that taking it all in and learning to play might be a little overwhelming for beginners. Minecraft is such a vast and limitless virtual space, with the only restrictions being the imagination of the players, so it’s hard to know if you’re doing everything right when you first start playing. We promise that once you get the hang of it, it’s not difficult at all – you just need a few tips!

Here are just a few tips and tricks to help you make the best of Minecraft – maybe some tips that even the most well-practiced players don’t know about!

Use Wooden Slabs To Build!

Most of us have spent hours and hours at some point on a building in Minecraft that we’re super proud of, only to have it catch fire and have to watch all our hard work burn to nothing! It’s definitely one of the most annoying things that can happen in-game.

It doesn’t take a start a fire in Minecraft, either, so building anything out of wood blocks alone is pretty risky business – but did you know that not all wood in the game catches fire so easily?

Wooden slabs won’t burn, so using them to create wooden structures leaves you at far less risk of losing your virtual stronghold if a fire is to happen. We’re not sure why dev's made it that way, but we’re pretty glad they did!

Protect Your House!

In survival mode, there’s a lot more than just fire to worry about.

Attackers come in all shapes and sizes, so it’s a good idea to proof your house as much as possible – and call in some extra back-up! Familiarize yourself with the different things that will stop certain attackers getting to you. For example, Endermen won’t attack you if you’re wearing a pumpkin head, no matter how relentlessly you attack them. As for zombies, be sure you put the door of your stronghold a block above the ground to stop them getting in. Creepers? Cats. Lots and lots of cats around your house will keep the creepers away – for real!

As extra protection, you could summon an Iron Golem – made by building four blocks of iron together in a T-formation and topping it off with a pumpkin head, these bodyguards are actually pretty good at warding off attacks.

If you're playing on OneBlock Minecraft Survival you can protect your land from griefers with a golden shovel. Learn more on our Minecraft Server IP: play.oneblockmc.com

Mooshroom Stew, Anyone?

You can milk mooshrooms – a breed of cow you only find within the mushroom biome – just like regular cows, but their milk is definitely a little different!

Mooshrooms won’t give out regular milk or even (thankfully) mushroom milkshake like you might have expected. Milking a mushroom yields mushroom stew, which might not sound appetising to a lot of players, but it definitely has its uses – mushroom stew is pretty good for restoring hunger, so it’s worth gathering as many mooshrooms as possible if you’re playing in the mushroom biome.

Other, maybe more obvious, things you can use to restore hunger are steak and cooked porkchop from pigs and cows, cooked mutton and cooked salmon, just to name a few.

Digging For Diamonds

The most effective Y-coordinate for mining diamonds is 11, so make sure you check your coordinates when mining to figure out whether or not you’re any closer to hitting the jackpot. You could encounter diamonds anywhere after Y-16, but 11 is thought to be the luckiest.

It’s a good idea to get in the habit of checking your coordinates while you’re mining anyway – go any lower than 11, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to end up in nice, hot lava, and nobody wants that!

Torches Underwater

Minecraft is one place where fire and water definitely do mix! Not always, obviously, but there is exceptions – and knowing what they are could get you out of some pretty sticky situations!

If you’re heading underwater, make sure you grab a few torches first, since they actually help you breathe underwater when they’re placed on a block. This works because placing the torch on a block creates a temporary air bubble that will help you out with a little extra breath. You have to be next to a block for this to work, obviously, so it’s not a fail-safe solution, but it’s definitely a neat little trick to take advantage of in case of any underwater emergencies!

Stop Going For Gold

Golden tools must be the best tools in the game, right? Wrong!

Surprisingly, golden tools don’t even last as long as wooden ones and will usually break after just a few uses, so you would be much better off saving all the gold that you find for other uses elsewhere. Gold is especially useful for crafting Golden Apples, a powerful healing item and one that you’ll definitely want if you find yourself in a situation – you can even use Golden Apples to turn zombie villagers back to normal.

Save your gold and maybe yourself, too – go for wooden tools instead.

Experiment!

Like we said, Minecraft is HUGE and the only limit is your imagination, so why not experiment with different parts of the game in creative mode? A lot of the tricks above are things you might not realize unless you encounter them by accident, so load up creative and just have fun playing around with it!

If you’re looking to become a pro at OneBlock or survival mode, this might feel like a waste of time, but trust us when we say that it’s a great way to get to grips with the Minecraft world and what purposes all the different blocks, animals and weapons have.
